Everyone has a Story

Life can be full of joy and laughter, and at other times, deep hurt and sorrow. Everyone has a story. Our stories say something about who we are and how we manage life; how we get our needs met and how we relate. We all have the same basic needs for love, acceptance, connection, significance and purpose and we all need support. We need someone to hear and value our voices, so that hope and joy may be renewed and our stories continue to be written with hopeful anticipation of what can and will be. We all have the power to redirect our stories. Sometimes we just need someone who will walk with us. Will you allow me to join you in your journey?

These feelings are normal reactions to life's stressors. Most people feel low and sad at times. However, in the case of individuals who are diagnosed with depression as a psychiatric disorder, the manifestations of the low mood are much more severe and they tend to persist.

The Impact of Trauma

Trauma has a powerful capacity to shape a child’s physical, emotional, and intellectual development, especially when the trauma is experienced early in life. Trauma can profoundly alter an individual’s life course and diminish innate resilience. Continual exposure to threatening situations can make a child’s brain prisoner to its “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In turn, it becomes difficult for an individual to build meaningful relationships and may even make it difficult to reach out for help.
